Summer Meadows is a 2D gardening game created for the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. The goal of this game was to give patients a relaxing experience and to use gesture controls. Summer Meadows features one main game and two mini games. The main game is a gardening simulator, where the player plants seeds, watches growth, and is then tasked with the maintenance of the plants. One mini game is an ATM style game to help with simple math abilities. The other mini game is a card sorting game with multiple difficulty levels for players.
This Capstone project took place over 4 months in the winter semester of my 2023 year at NAIT. We spent the early days brainstorming ideas to best represent the request of the client. I had the immense pleasure of working together with five programming students, four other game design students, and one business analyst student to develop this game.
In my role as a designer, I spent much of my time drawing 2D assets such as plants (Cabbage, blueberries, grapes, and blackberries), the caterpillar, the sorting cards and flowers, money in the ATM game, and the credits board. I also created the title logo. This game was developed in Unity, where I also created some animations for the bug movements.
Here is some game-play footage of Summer Meadows!
